How To Write A Contextual Study

Contextual Study

What does it need to contain?

Purpose of a music video
·      What is the purpose of music videos?
·      Promotion (Star Image – Dyer)
·      Synergy
·      Sales
·      Criticism/Scandal?

The different styles of music videos (use Frith here)
·      Clear understanding of the types of music videos.
·      Give an example or two and explain what conventions belong to that type.
·      Do certain genres of music use certain styles more often?

The codes and conventions of music videos (use Goodwin here)
·      Give clear examples that link to each of Goodwin’s points
·      Explore two different genres – are certain conventions exclusive to certain genres?

Techniques
·      What type of camera angles do they contain?
·      What editing techniques do they use?

This contextual study needs to include
·      Appropriate examples of music videos – clearly linked to points.
·      Research! Use websites and books to help write your contextual study.
·      Do not overly rely on the PowerPoints from class – you are expected to do your own research.
·      Create a bibliography!
·      It should be spell checked if written – you need to proof read your work.
·      It should be arranged in a clear manner. If you are creating a VLOG – write the script first. This can be checked before you turn the video into a VLOG.

You can create this as a word document, PowerPoint presentation or a VLOG.

Please submit both your word document, or PowerPoint or both the script and VLOG to your M://.

Deadline: 24-03-17

It needs to be detailed. You will be shown a distinction example of both a document and a VLOG.
